Hope Matters
After reading today’s hopeletter, I hope you spend a bit of time reflecting.
I know you might’ve looked at the title and thought, “She’s about to get religious.”Well, I will…a little bit. I do believe there are angels watching over us, but sometimes God sends them in the form of people at just the right moments. In some of my most I-don’t-know-what-to-do moments, there have been people who have swooped in and saved the day or made a connection that I desperately needed without them knowing what I was going through or how much I needed the thing they offered. I call them my angels.
Now, before you get all huffy and start thinking about how faulty people can be (We all are, right?), this has nothing to do with their shortcomings but with them answering a call they might not have even heard or just jumping into action.
One autumn day, I was meeting with our organization’s social worker concerning one of our community members. So, we were sitting in my office, and she asked how Son and I were doing. Of course, we were fine physically, but I began to express my concerns about school for him. You see, the summer before, he and I had been in a terrible car accident. While we were recuperating, the private school he was attending closed its doors. So, we tried online schooling. (When I tell you that was an utter disaster…*eyeroll*) Well, I was at my wit’s end with it all and trying to get him somewhere, even considering public school which, for him and me, had always had horrible results.
Immediately, she went into action. Giving me resource after resource, even walking me through how to get things done. For the first time in a long while, I felt hope that he and I would get through this, and he’d complete high school. She’s one of my angels and continues to be actually.
Take some time to think about your life’s angels. Give thanks for them. I invite you to share your story about them in the comment section, if you’d like*. Most importantly, I want you to reflect on for whom you’ve been an angel, because we all have at some point, right? I’m not talking about simply meeting a need for someone that you knew about beforehand. I want you to dig deep for the time when all you were doing was being yourself, and it blessed someone in a way they just couldn’t stop talking about or thanking you for or it changed their trajectory.
We all have this assignment to be people as angels at some point, no matter our shortcomings. It is not a hard thing to do, and you don’t need wings. 😁 Simply, stay on the lookout for those moments, keep being yourself, listen to the small voice that tells you to do something you had no intention of doing. You are someone’s hope. You are someone’s angel.
Here’s hoping! ☕️

Coffee Matters
Let’s talk coffee angels. This past weekend I was in Arlington, VA for a conference. A dear friend, who lives in Washington D.C. and knows how much I love coffee, took great care to show me around and spend time me. I had a wonderful time. I know you’re wondering what all this has to do with coffee.
Well…I’d only had the chain-y coffee from the hotel restaurant downstairs, and there were no local coffee shops within walking distance of the hotel. 😕 When this angel came to pick me up for our sightseeing expedition, she gave me beans! Y’all, they smelled wonderful, even through the bag. I could hardly wait to get home to try it; I’ve been drinking it all week. 😉
This coffee is roasted by Small Planes in D.C. Arboretum is crazy delicious! The chocolate, listed in the taste notes, comes through like a champ. I tasted it in the first cup and didn’t have to find it. I do taste the ripe fruit occasionally, but that chocolate…YUM! Now, if you get this coffee, I do suggest upping the amount of beans you grind, as it is a light roast. Once I did this, the flavors really popped.
Thank you, Coffee Angel! You know your stuff.
What are you hoping and sipping this week?

I appreciate you taking the time to read this hopeletter about my life and coffee. Please share with a friend who could use a little hope or coffee recommendation.
I had an angel many years ago that I'd like to share. Being between jobs, the transmission went out on my van. That was not good, particularly having five little ones in tow. It was at this time that I decided to go into business for myself. Well, things did not go as I saw them in my head. The shop that fixed my van was very gracious and patient. However, I had no where near the $2,500 needed to pay my bill. Long story short, without giving every detail, the owner asked if I had lost my job. I blubbered a yes through my silent warm tears. He said, "Come get your truck." That afforded me the opportunity to go job hunting in order to support my family. Some time after that I went back to tell him thank you. His more-than-generous offer saved my family from spiraling into something that I don't wish to consider. You never know through whom your blessings will flow.
